I like to define spirituality as “the search for the sacred.” There are two important terms here: search and sacred. The term “sacred” refers not only to concepts of God and higher powers, but also to other aspects of life that are perceived to be manifestations of important qualities. This includes feeling good about yourself and others, and believing that there is a world of good abundance out there to live in. Beliefs, practices, experiences, relationships, motivations, art, nature, war – virtually any part of life, positive or negative, can be designated with sacred status.
By search, we are referring to an ongoing journey, a process that begins with the discovery of something sacred followed by attempts to build and conserve a relationship with the sacred. In my case, I am a Christian who follows the teachings of Christ and the Holy Bible which are sacred to me. That is how I manifest my spirituality. I am connected to something much greater than myself. Search and adoption of what I hold sacred gives me a playbook for life. I recommend you search for what you think is sacred and work to find the peace and unlimited opportunities that come to you when spirituality is part of your life..
